JOURNAL #5- 05/20/2001, 22:31
"Defiting-ition ('ting' not unintentional) of music"

What makes music like Tool, Dredg, and Pink Floyd different than other bands; why their music makes me feel different than other music:

When we listen to music, we often forget that it is a form of art. We dont think of music in the same frame of mind as we think of The Mona Lisa, Van Gough's Starry Night, or Michaelangelo's David. The reason is because we usually hear music through some form of medium (i.e. we have to turn on the radio, or we have to put a CD in the CD player and press play), whereas the previously mentioned works of art are physical, and allow you to focus all your attention on it. When Listening to Dredg's Leitmotif forces you to think about how beautiful music is, and how it is a work of art and not just entertainment.

Analysis of the phrase "Arts and Entertainment":

Why is it that art is not considered a form of entertainment? Screw that

I wanna talk about my drunken haze last night at the party. i remember when i danced between too chicks!! the one behind me kept rubbing up against my ass, and also slapping my ass a little bit. the one in front of me of rub her ass up against my crotch. i wish i had talked to them more after that, i may have had a chance at getting some pussy.
The one in front was a black girl, plays for the basketball team. the one behind was a white girl, shes on some team (probably the ski/snowboard team).
Both girls were real tall.

The girl i liked was Lisa. She was blond, a little taller than me, and had her hair in cute pigtails :) She wore a yellow shirt that said "Nerd". And some kind of funky pants. Freshman, went to Liverton High School, knows lots of people at Deagia (our conversation started when i overheard her talk about Deagia). Majoring in Applied Math (gets the bonus point). Left kinda early :( Was with her friends Jen and some other girl whos name i didnt get. Jen was short, a little bit chunky (i dont remember how much, i was drunk). She wore a black dress, or maybe it was a black shit with matching black skirt. The skirt/dress was short, showed some leg, but like i said she was a little chunky, so her legs werent anything impressive (but i still appreciate the showing of legs. even if the legs arent that nice it is nice to have the girl wear a skirt or dress at least every now and then, to show that she isnt totally against skirts/dresses). Jen went to Gells High School, did gymnastics (she knew about Shannon Sipen from Century). oh yeah, Jen was a brunette. Lisa's other friend was tall, i believe brunette. Other people i met: Bill (Jesus, Comm Major), he was a cool guy. His friend Elena, whos in my POLI 102G class...kinda cool. Elena was a cute blond, pretty eyes. i believe she had a boyfriend with her. Elena and herboyfriend left early without Bill (he didnt have a ride home, hope he found one). Oh yeah, the girl Ryan was hitting on, Susan. She was cute. real short. i was pretty fucked up yelling: "Ryan, you're not gonna get laid"

Back to the music as an art thing, a perfect example is Disposition by Tool. It's mellow, its lyrics are poetic and meaningful.

now i shall eat, then watch a south park, maybe gets something to drink, then go to bed to go to class in the morning.
