"The Middle of the Town"
-------------
Since. Theres no one thats around we'll let our hair grow long and forget all we
used to know then our skin gets thicker from livin out in the snow you change
all the lead sleeping in my head as the day grows dim hear you sing a golden
hymn
then we tried to name our babies but we forgot all the names that the names we
used to know
but sometimes we remember our bedrooms and our parents bedrooms and the bedrooms
of our friends then we think of our parents well what ever happened to them you
change all the lead sleepin in my head as the day grows dim hear you sing a
golden hymn
was going to do an arcade fire rating system tonight but just realized that
would be forcing the issue
not rating system, but rather a rank of the power songs of arcade fire
gotta let that shit come naturally. i should just sit hear and enjoy a "best of"
the arcade fire
great band
first song was Neightborhood #1: Tunnels
Now listening to The Well and the Lighthouse
great use of the backing vocals of reginne chassaigne (sp?)
also good use of bells
arcade fire is such an amazing blend of music styles
very talented musically
even richard reed parry, who seems like he's simplya "utility guy" who mya play
the parts of certain songs that seem less important, such as his use of the big
drum in that one song that should be playing soon
begin Rebellion (Lies)
probably my to date clear favorite Arcade Fire song, though Intervention is
prety high up among with Neighborhood #2: Laika. The list so far:
Neighborhood #1: Tunnels
The Well and the Lighthouse
Gotta say this is a great song
the live performace helps move this up the list
though the change of the "tone" of the song at approx -3:20 of the song is
pretty awesome
the break at approx -2:40 is great too
the last minute or so though is amazing
the way it builds up slowly towards the end. amazing
scare your son scare your daughter
love the little clap thing at -1:50
and the background "lies liese" change in tone again
violin solo with soulfully heavy piano mashing
additional drum beats
so amazing and full and overwhelming yet amazing at the same time
the live performance is mind blowing
this truly fits my concept of the "buildup song" that I always think about. The
list now:
R(L)
N1:T
tWatLh
Begin Blakc Wave/Bad Vibrations
Was intersting how they tied the 2 tracks together. both good. the contrast i
think does really enhance the song
BW is somewhat upbeat but with a slightly dark undertone to it with Regine's
vocals. the little transition between the two songs is pretty good too here it
is
BV is much darker, like th response to the lightness. interesting that in BV the
lyrics "Black Wave" is used. i never thought about that, but always thought that
Win's singing was BV, but maybe the names are backwards
On BV Regine's backing is really good. Win really sings the dark emotions so
well.
Again the orchestra-like music just really melds together so well. on casual
listen this just sounds like some average band... got listen to the depth of the
sound to appreciate.
Begin Black Mirror. The ranks so far:
R(L)
N1:T
BW/BV
tWatLh
Black Mirror is dark. man these guys are dark. love the percussion in this song.
again very orchestra like.
incredibly talented musicans. i'm totally think how great it would be to tell
Diane about the way i feel about this band.
totally realizing some amazing things within myself. Sorry tAF, but this is
simply amazing stuff that i have to type it before i lose sight of it:
for the first time ever ive felt like i could (and probably should at some
point) share myself to the point where i would show her this blog (funny how the
word blog didn't exist when i started this). crazy man. i've really become so
comfortable with who i am, and in addition met someone with who i am so
comfortable with.
being Wake Up. Ranks now:
a r(l)
b n1:t
c bw/bv
d bm
e twatlh
(being wake up not being) this is a song that like many is grand in scope, but
in this case it is from the offset, and never ceases until it hits the "get
catchy" part later, and then takes on a very different feel. not sure how much i
like the transition... almost seems like a cheap trick. still good though. ill
recomment when i reach that point in the song
i guess well just have to adjuuuuuuuuuuuuu- uuuuuuuuuuuuu- u-
u-u-u-u-uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu-u-u-u-u-uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu-uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu-uuuuuuuuuu-
uuuuuuuuuuu-uuuuuuuu--uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
forgot about the middle "dreamy" part. that is nice. with the overdriven
electric guitar (cleanly overdriven, not dirty).
now at fast part. good use of bass. like the extra clean guitar in the
background.
beautiful song.
crazy canadians just rockin out with crazy instruments
cant say im a huge fan of the way it ends.
begin (ATB) rank so far:
a
b
c
f WU
d
e
this song isn't bad. initially i thought it was the other one i really like
(intervention) but isn't. not bad. maintains a very consistant heart throughout,
which hurts it due to not as much grandness. still good though.
hit the slower part, which is good. good use of piano? (or keyboard?) think this
will go after WU.
Gonna chekc the Padres shit bottom of the nineh
will keep it on its good. runner on second.
giants/ padres. so conflictred. good game though
holy crap crazy shit going on! line drive jumping catch by 2nd basemen with 1
out, almost gets double play diving into 2nd base
shit tough loss for padres, good one for giants.
back to tAF
boorded of ranking but Intervention started
good song. deep meaning. the organ really pushes the grandness of the song, and
hints at the religous undertone to the song. guess the under
(diane just called talked to her for 15min and mentioned that im stoned)
good use of bells on intervention. the change of the mood to a lighter tone and
even "holier" if there ever was a song with a holier than though tone and theme
it would be this not metallica
side note: wonder if new south park is on now. will have to check
current ranks put intervention approx upper middle class
now n2:laika. one of the top 4 most liekely. this is in a sense a buildup song,
but not the same way r(l). our mothers should have just named you laika
come on alex you can do it. come on alex theres nothin too it if you want
somethin dont ask for nothin if you want somethin dont ask for nothing our
should have
lkove the change in timing between "our mother should have" from chorus 1 to 2
lovethe extra faster part at the end of chorus 2
man this is a good song im thinkin top 3
love the extra crunch to the older brother, and then that even has variations
later with trash can like sound
good backing vocals from regine. especially the tone infleciton on just should
have just named you laika
tone change bridge includded the neighborhood
but great recoveryt= frim it when daddy comes home
the lst 30 seconds or so isnt that great though.
now playing n3:powerout
i woke up with power out.
the bells that play throughout the song really add some positive inflection, but
countered by distorted bass line.
opportunities for song to switch directions throughout
gotta comment on the we found the light touch
again great backing vocals by regine, this time during chorus.
oooohhh
good driving rhythm throughout, even during soft part
love the way the bass slides. wonder if its fretless probably not
good use of violins during ending part
man regine really adds a lot with her vocals, incredibly subtle though
drum finish
end n3:po
now playing: KtCR (keep the car running)
good opener to Neon Bible
Love the fade in and fade out of the piano? keyboard?
wonder if they are controlling that fade in and fade out live or if it is studio
work doing that. interesting
also wonder if all arcade fire stuff is self produced or what? gonna chec kthat
now
now playing: crown of love. not bad but kinda more boring than others
now playing: no cars go. crazy i started with tunnels and finished with no cars
go
ok i think its time to eat then remove clothes from drier then masturbate then
crash.
